If you happen to follow me on Twitter (@KaileeBerkeTS), you already know that staying up-to-speed on the latest news and trends of the early childhood field is extremely important to me. My colleagues at Teaching Strategies and I believe that there’s power in being a life-long learner, and even though being a CEO and a single parent keeps me incredibly busy, I try to carve out a little time every day to stay abreast of news, information, and research that impacts all of us as early childhood educators. If by chance that’s something you want to do as well, we at Teaching Strategies would like to make things easier for you, our valued partners. So here are some of my favorite sources for #ECE news. We hope you’ll subscribe to some of these (especially our blog!) and that you’ll find them as interesting and helpful as we do.
Here are 7 of my favorite sources for the latest information on the early childhood field:
- Education Week – Early Years blog
Education Week is one of the leading publications in the education field. Their Early Years blog is a great source for news, emerging research, and industry trends.
- Hechinger Report – Early Education
The Hechinger Report provides original reporting on the latest industry trends and news as well as stories from inside the classroom, with information for parents and policy makers alike!
- NIEER – Early Education News
NIEER (National Institute for Early Education Research) is a great aggregate of ECE news and research.
- The NAEYC blog
As an early childhood educator you’re probably familiar with NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children), but did you know they have a blog? They offer content for every member of the classroom community, so there’s a little something for everyone.
- First Five Years Fund – News & Resources
Like NIEER, The First Five Years Fund is a great one-stop-shop for the latest ECE news and research.
- Chalkbeat – Early Childhood
While more regionally focused (TN, CO, IN, NY, Detroit, Chicago), Chalkbeat is a wonderful source for original reporting and school stories. Added bonus—they also have a great jobs board!
- The Teaching Strategies blog
I couldn’t possibly share a list of my favorite sources of ECE information and not include the Teaching Strategies blog. Over the past few months our team has developed a wide breadth of content that we hope educators like you find helpful and informative, covering topics from broad industry trends, such as the importance social–emotional learning, to classroom strategies, such as ways to support literacy skills development.
