Authentic, observation-based assessment is a critical component of intentional instruction and improved program effectiveness, and most importantly, provides educators with the information they need to help all children to succeed.

Yet, many misunderstand the difference between developmentally appropriate, ongoing assessment and pulling children away from their classroom activities to “test” their knowledge and skills.
